Letâs Get it StartedâŚ
ââOur eighth edition of âExtraGainzâ was published on Saturday morning with an essay on Peloton ($PTON). If you want to read it now, click here. Weâll also be republishing an ICYMI on Wednesday. Now itâs back to the news in a quick and digestible manner.

1.) E-Z Money â The BIG Story
A Tesla vehicle operating on âAutopilotâ crashed into a parked Florida State Trooperâs vehicle this weekend. This comes just two weeks after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) officially opened an investigation into the automaker. NHTSA reported that Tesla was being investigated for 11 separate crashes in 9 states, which included one fatality. CEO Elon Musk admitted at the time that the latest beta self-driving software was ânot great.â Now Musk is speaking out on other companies as well. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO believes Nvidiaâs deal for British chip designer Arm should be investigated for anticompetitiveness. The global chip shortage continues to impact Tesla and all other automakers across the world.
2.) âTo the Moonâ â Retail Investing
This Monday another pandemic darling Zoom ($ZM) will report earnings. Since hitting its peak closing price of $559 in October of 2020, Zoom has fallen 40%, currently trading at $340/share. The stock has moved higher recently as analysts at major banks expect more blowout results from the video technology company. But in the most ironic news ever, Zoom is sending its own employees back to the office. The company says it is âstrategically mixing in-office and remote workâ in a hybrid manner in the near future.
3.) âThe Cypherâ â Crypto Investing
We wrote about the Cardano blockchain and specifically the ADA digital token on Saturday. The cryptocurrency hit an all-time high this past week at $2.94, while Solana ($SOL), another CapGainz favorite, hit $101. In general, the prices of altcoins (Altcoins = really anything other than Bitcoin ($BTC) or Ethereum ($ETH)) have been surging lately as individual investors pile back into cryptocurrencies. Cardanoâs blockchain uses significantly less energy than Bitcoin, leading many advocates to think it will win in the long term. Remember that a blockchain is a digital ledger that securely tracks cryptocurrency transactions.
4.) âStraight Cashâ â Sports Betting
We had a little appetizer with College Football âWeek Zeroâ this past weekend but now itâs time for the real kickoff. Check out the lines for Week 1 with some major games happening immediately. #5 Georgia takes on #3 Clemson with the Tigers a (-3) point favorite. Lâs taking the favorite from South Carolina in this one. You also have #19 Penn State taking on #12 Wisconsin with the Badgers a (-4.5) favorite. Lâs taking another favorite in the red and white in this matchup. Three other games to watch that L will sit out: #1 Alabama (-17.5) versus #14 Miami (FL), #17 Indiana at #18 Iowa (-3.5), and #23 Louisville takes on #8 Texas (-8).
5.) âThe Alternativesâ â NFTs, ESGs, & More!
Speaking of making money, a 12-year-old boy from London made ÂŁ290,000 ($400,000 USD) from selling pixelated artwork called âWeird Whalesâ as NFTs. Benyamin Ahmed plans on keeping the proceeds from the sale in Ethereum ($ETH) and hopes that it goes up in value. Benyamin was encouraged by his father Imran, a software developer, to start coding at the age of five. âWeird Whalesâ is Benyaminâs second digital-art collection, following a âMinecraftâ inspired series.
6.) Bonus Sh*t
Our prayers are with the people of Louisiana as Hurricane Ida hits the area around New Orleans. This stunning video shows a clinicâs roof being ripped off by Idaâs winds. Now there are widespread power outages across the state, almost exactly 16 years after Hurricane Katrina. You can donate to those impacted by the Hurricane with the American Red Cross here.
